How TopFxBrokers Evaluated FBS?

Our take on FBS

Verdict in Brief

FBS is aimed at retail forex and CFD traders who want to start with a modest balance and stay within the familiar MetaTrader environment. The global Standard account opens from $5, accepts trades from 0.01 lot, and provides access to more than 550 instruments. Forex pricing is built into floating spreads that start at 0.7 pips rather than a separate commission.

The main compromise is regulatory protection. Most international accounts sit with FBS Markets Inc. under Belize license 4077102, while eligible European clients are served by a separate CySEC-regulated company. The European structure brings stronger statutory safeguards and lower retail leverage. Pricing on the Standard account is straightforward, but traders with heavy monthly volume can find tighter raw spreads at specialist brokers.

Best Suited To

  • Beginners who want to practice first and fund a live account gradually.
  • Small-account traders who need 0.01-lot orders or access to a regional Cent account.
  • Traders already comfortable with MetaTrader and Expert Advisors.
  • Scalpers, hedgers, and news traders who understand slippage and spread expansion.
Pros
  • $5 entry point and 0.01-lot minimum order
  • 550+ CFDs and 70+ forex pairs
  • MT4, MT5, WebTrader, and mobile access
  • 24/7 multilingual support
Cons
  • Most international clients use the Belize-regulated entity
  • No dedicated raw-spread account in the main global offer
  • Fees, limits, and processing times vary by country and method
  • The proprietary CopyTrade service closed in 2022

Can FBS Be Trusted?

4.7/5

Regulation and Licenses

FBS is a brand shared by two legal entities, and the distinction matters. International clients generally open with FBS Markets Inc., a Belize company registered as 000001317 and licensed by the Financial Services Commission under number 4077102. Eligible European clients are instead served by Tradestone Limited, registration HE 353534, under CySEC license 331/17.

The name on the account agreement determines the protection available. CySEC retail clients receive MiFID-based safeguards and access to the Cyprus Investor Compensation Fund. Clients of the Belize entity do not automatically receive the same cover. The global service is also unavailable in several jurisdictions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Israel, India, Iran, and Myanmar.

This is enough for a moderate trust assessment, not a top-tier one. FBS has a long operating record and a regulated international entity, but the Belize supervisor does not provide the same level of assurance commonly associated with the FCA or ASIC.

Client Money Protection

FBS states that client money is held separately from company funds across several tier-1 banks. Segregation is an important control because the broker should not use those deposits for day-to-day operating expenses. It is not, however, a guarantee against trading losses or any form of insolvency risk.

Compensation protection is limited to eligible CySEC clients. The Cyprus Investor Compensation Fund covers the lower of 90% of a valid claim or €20,000. Accounts held with the Belize entity do not automatically qualify.

Negative Balance Protection

Negative balance protection operates alongside a 40% margin call and a 20% stop-out. Once equity falls to the stop-out level, the platform can begin closing positions. The protection is designed to prevent a debt to FBS, not to preserve the money already deposited, which is why position size matters far more than the headline leverage limit.

Security and Company Track Record

FBS has operated since 2009 and reports more than 27 million registered clients across more than 150 countries. That history carries weight, although the company is privately held and releases less financial information than a listed broker.

Day-to-day account security includes email and phone verification, identity checks, one-time withdrawal passwords, 3D Secure card authentication, SSL encryption, and card controls. These measures are useful, but clients still need unique login credentials and should verify every payment request carefully.

Pricing and Trading Costs

3.2/5

Forex Spreads and Commissions

The Standard account keeps forex pricing simple: there is no separate commission when a position is opened or closed, so the cost is mainly the spread. FBS advertises minimum spreads from 0.7 pips. Our calculated weighted average spreads are 1.2 pips on EUR/USD and 1.6 pips on GBP/USD. Gold came in at 0.37 points and the S&P 500 CFD at 0.6 points.

Those figures are workable for occasional trading, but frequent entries and exits make the difference between standard and raw pricing more noticeable. The advertised minimum also tells only part of the story. Spreads can widen around news, rollover, market openings, and thin liquidity, so typical conditions matter more than the best quoted number.

Overnight Financing Charges

A position left open through rollover can earn or incur financing, depending on the instrument and trade direction. Forex positions normally receive a triple swap on Wednesday. Since the rates change, the current contract specification is worth checking before carrying a leveraged position for several days.

Funding and Currency Conversion Costs

FBS generally does not add its own commission to deposits, though the bank, wallet, or card processor may still charge. Withdrawal fees depend on the method and country and are shown before confirmation. A further cost can arise when the payment currency differs from the USD or EUR base currency of the Standard account.

Inactivity and Other Charges

There is no standard recurring inactivity fee. An account can nevertheless be archived after 90 days without use, and the client may need to restore it before trading again.

VPS terms are more specific. Access starts after an initial deposit of at least $450, and trading 3 standard lots per month keeps the service free. Below that volume, a $33 monthly charge applies from the second month. Swap-free accounts can also attract fixed administration fees on certain instruments or after a stated holding period.

Accounts and Minimum Deposit

4/5

Account Options

Most global clients are presented with one main choice: the Standard account. It starts from $5, uses USD or EUR as the base currency, and connects to the full FBS platform range with floating spreads. A Cent account is available in selected regions, where the smallest exposure can be as small as a 0.0001-standard-lot position and leverage can reach 1:1000.

That simplicity removes an early decision for beginners. The other side of it is that experienced traders do not get a dedicated raw-spread tier with a clearly stated commission per lot.

Demo and Swap-Free Accounts

The free demo is a sensible place to learn order entry and test trading rules without putting money at risk. As with any demo, it cannot reproduce live slippage, changing liquidity, the pressure of real losses, or the practical experience of making a withdrawal.

Eligible clients can request swap-free status, but swap-free does not always mean cost-free overnight. Fixed fees may begin after 2 days or apply to selected exotic pairs. Anyone holding positions for longer periods should compare the normal swap and the alternative fee for each instrument.

Products and Trading Conditions

3.6/5

Tradable Markets

The product list is broad enough for most retail CFD traders. More than 550 contracts cover over 70 forex pairs, along with metals, energies, indices, shares, and cryptocurrencies. Every trade is derivative-based, though, so FBS is not the place to buy physical shares, coins, ETFs, options, or futures.

Leverage and Margin Requirements

Global forex leverage follows a sliding scale, with the highest limit reserved for the smallest accounts:

  • $0 to $199: up to 1:3000.
  • $200 to $4,999: up to 1:2000.
  • $5,000 to $29,999: up to 1:1000.
  • $30,000 to $149,999: up to 1:500.
  • $150,000 or more: up to 1:400.

The instrument sets another limit. The maximums are 1:500 on metals, 1:200 on energies, 1:100 on stocks, 1:500 on US30, US100, and US500, and 1:200 on other indices. Event risk and local rules can reduce them further. Under the CySEC retail framework, major forex pairs are generally capped at 1:30.

Execution Quality and Trading Rules

FBS advertises execution times starting from 0.01 seconds, no requotes, and room for up to 500 open positions, including 200 pending orders. These are platform limits rather than a promise that every order will fill at the requested price. In live markets, the connection, server load, available liquidity, and volatility all affect the result, and slippage can work for or against the trader.

The trading rules leave room for scalping, hedging, news trading, and automated strategies. That freedom does not change how markets behave. A limit order can go unfilled, and a stop can execute beyond its requested level when prices gap or move quickly.

Platforms and Trading Features

4.5/5

Supported Platforms

FBS stays with familiar platforms rather than asking traders to learn a proprietary terminal. MT4, MT5, WebTrader, and mobile apps cover desktop, browser, Android, and iOS. MT4 remains a practical choice for established forex indicators and Expert Advisors, with 9 timeframes and more than 30 built-in indicators. MT5 is the stronger all-round terminal, adding 21 timeframes, 38 indicators, more order types, an economic calendar, and a better strategy tester.

WebTrader is useful when installing software is inconvenient. On mobile, the FBS app brings account management, funding, order entry, TradingView-based charts, and more than 90 indicators into the same interface. Desktop MetaTrader remains the better place for coding, backtesting, and detailed multi-chart work.

Charts, Research and Analysis

The research area brings together daily analysis, trade ideas, calendars, calculators, market news, technical commentary, and VIP Analytics. It can help organize the trading day, but it should be treated as a starting point. The final trade selection and risk decision still belong to the client.

Automated and Copy Trading

Automated trading is largely a MetaTrader affair. Expert Advisors, MQL programming, strategy testing, and optional VPS hosting cover the usual retail workflows. FBS does not clearly publish a proprietary retail REST or FIX API, so direct integrations outside MT4 and MT5 are limited.

Copy trading is no longer an in-house FBS service. The FBS CopyTrade app closed on September 22, 2022, leaving third-party MetaTrader signals as the main route. Those providers set their own subscriptions and present their own performance records, so each one needs to be assessed separately.

Learning Materials

Education is one of the more complete parts of the FBS service. The Academy, Trader's Blog, glossary, videos, courses, strategy articles, and calculators cover both basic and advanced materials in several languages. New traders will get more value from the sections on order types, margin, leverage, stop-out, and position sizing than from jumping straight into indicator strategies.

Joining FBS

Registration and Identity Checks

Registration starts with the usual personal details: name, email address, password, email confirmation, phone verification, and selection of a trading account. Full access normally requires government-issued identification. Compliance staff can also ask for proof of address or evidence showing where the funds came from.

The payment account must belong to the same person named on the FBS profile. When a card image is requested, the first 6 and last 4 digits may need to remain visible, while the CVV should be hidden.

Approval Times

Account creation is immediate, and FBS reports an average document check of about 7 minutes. A clear, consistent application can be approved quickly. Blurred documents, mismatched details, or enhanced compliance checks can extend the process to several hours or days. Verifying the account before making a deposit removes one common cause of withdrawal delays.

Funding Your Account

3.6/5

Deposit and Withdrawal Methods

Funding is one area where FBS stands out. The broker advertises more than 200 global and local methods, although the actual list changes by country. Depending on location, clients may see Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, Visa, Litecoin, Skrill, PayPal, Alipay+, UnionPay, Mastercard, Maestro, bank wire, Bitwallet, GCash, Neteller, PayMaya, or Sticpay.

The headline $5 deposit does not apply to every method. Neteller starts at $10 and Skrill at $12, for example. FBS generally waives its own deposit commission, but withdrawal charges and third-party fees vary. Anti-money laundering rules also mean that money is normally returned through the original funding method, especially when several methods have been used.

Processing Times

Processing speed depends far more on the payment method than on FBS alone. Electronic deposits can arrive instantly or within 15 to 20 minutes, while a bank deposit may take up to 10 business days. After approval, e-wallet withdrawals can settle immediately or within 30 minutes. Card withdrawals take an average of 3 to 4 business days and may take up to 7, while bank wires usually need 7 to 10 business days. Cryptocurrency timing follows the network.

Delays usually come from practical issues rather than the advertised processing window: a name mismatch, incomplete verification, a compliance review, a banking holiday, card refund rules, or blockchain congestion.

Help and Customer Service

3.8/5

Contact Options and Availability

Support is available around the clock through live chat, email, phone, and a callback service. The main email address is [email protected], and telephone numbers include +357 22 010970 and +501 611 0594. An urgent position still needs to be managed through the trading platform rather than left to a support queue.

Response Speed and Service Quality

FBS reports an average response time of under 1 minute for routine questions. Live chat is the most practical route for simple account or payment queries. Compliance cases, disputes, and delays involving an outside provider normally need documents and a longer written review. The 24/7 schedule is useful, but first-line support cannot resolve every payment or execution problem on the spot.

Languages and Complaint Handling

Help is available in English, Bahasa Indonesia, Thai, Spanish, Kiswahili, Tagalog, Portuguese, Bahasa Melayu, Arabic, and Turkish. For a formal complaint, the strongest approach is to state the account number, relevant order or transaction, date, amount, evidence, and the outcome being requested. Any right to escalate the case depends on the legal entity named in the account agreement.

How FBS Compares

Better Choice for New Traders

XTB is the stronger beginner's choice where its regional service is available. It has no minimum deposit, and xStation places education, research, and trading in one well-integrated interface. FBS makes more sense for someone who specifically wants MetaTrader, a Cent account, or wider access to local payment methods.

Better Choice for Lower Costs

Capitalcore is the stronger alternative for traders who prefer fixed, commission-free pricing. Its Classic account starts at $5 with spreads from 0.3 pips, and it gives traders greater cost predictability because its spreads are fixed.

Better Choice for Experienced Traders

Pepperstone gives experienced traders more room to build a preferred workflow. TradingView, MT4, MT5, cTrader, proprietary software, and API connectivity sit alongside more than 1,350 instruments. Razor pricing starts from 0.0 pips plus commission. FBS remains easier for a small opening deposit and very high global leverage, while Pepperstone is better equipped for raw pricing and direct integrations.

Reasons to Choose FBS

  • Standard account costs are easy to follow because forex has no separate commission.
  • The platform range covers MetaTrader, browser trading, and mobile use.
  • Trading rules accommodate scalping, hedging, news trading, and Expert Advisors.

How We Reviewed FBS

Testing and Scoring Process

Every broker is assessed using the same review methodology and scoring framework. Applying consistent criteria across all reviews makes it easier to compare brokers on matters such as regulation, pricing, platforms, account conditions, market access, funding, and customer support. A full explanation of the process is available on our broker review methodology page.

Editorial and Commercial Disclosure

Our broker reviews are produced independently and do not constitute personal financial advice. The same methodology, scoring criteria, and editorial standards are applied to every broker, and no commercial relationships influence our evaluations.

Broker terms can change after publication. While we review and update broker information regularly, readers should still confirm current spreads, commissions, leverage limits, minimum deposits, promotions, payment methods, restricted jurisdictions, and client protection measures before opening or funding an account.

Final Assessment

FBS makes the most sense as an accessible MetaTrader broker, not as a specialist venue for the lowest possible trading costs. It is easy to approach because the starting deposit is low, order sizes can be small, funding methods are varied, and support runs around the clock. In return, many international clients accept Belize regulation, spread-only pricing without a raw tier, limited direct integrations, and no in-house copy-trading service.

For a beginner or small-account trader, FBS can be a sensible fit once the contracting entity is confirmed and leverage is kept under control. Traders who care more about stronger statutory protection, raw pricing, cTrader, TradingView integration, or direct APIs have good reason to compare XTB, Capitalcore, and Pepperstone before opening an account.
